Signed 'Luis de Tejeda faciebit', this copper painting follows the revered image of Our Lady of Guadalupe while revealing the artist's individual handling of face, hands, drapery and light. The signature makes it a significant reference for the study of Tejeda's work. A painter documented in the second half of the seventeenth century, he was recognised for his Guadalupan images. Here, fidelity to the devotional prototype coexists with a clear assertion of authorship.
