This devotional miniature portrays the crowned Virgin and Child of Guadalupe of Extremadura as a richly adorned cult image. Angels draw back curtains to reveal garments covered with jewels and gold ornament, creating a ceremonial setting on an intimate scale. Attributed to the workshop of the Lagarto family, the painting connects New Spanish miniature practice with European printed models. It retains an original wooden frame with imitation tortoiseshell decoration.
