Seated in an imposing armchair, the Christ Child raises his right hand in blessing and holds an orb in his left. A red mantle and white garment lend ceremonial grandeur to the youthful figure. In the upper left, a shield bearing the instruments of the Passion anticipates Christ's sacrifice. The composition unites the intimacy of childhood with the authority of the Saviour of the World.
