A male figure in a landscape occupies the central medallion of this richly decorated lacquered tray. Floral discs, winged hybrid figures, animals and interlaced vegetation form an animated ornamental ring. On the reverse, a six-lobed rosette and geometric bands reveal a contrasting decorative scheme. The piece belongs to the Peribán tradition of Michoacán, in which indigenous lacquer techniques accommodated European ornamental imagery and designs associated with print culture.
