This small copper presents the crowned and richly dressed cult image of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Extremadura, revealed by a curtain and accompanied by the Christ Child. Its jewels, textiles and ceremonial setting translate the appearance of a venerated sculpture into an intimate devotional painting. The composition relates to Guadalupe prints circulating in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The published attribution to Upper Peru is retained, while the precise workshop and date remain open.
