Saint Anne, Saint Joachim and the young Virgin Mary gather around an open book in a setting enriched by a Solomonic column and a rose garden. Mother-of-pearl fragments lend shifting luminosity to the painted garments, transforming a scene of domestic instruction into a sumptuous devotional image. The study proposes a connection with the milieu of Juan and Miguel González in Mexico City around 1680–1700. The present frame is later and follows historical models.
