The Virgin of Guadalupe appears in a radiant aureole, her hands joined in prayer and her blue mantle covered with gold stars. Four floral-framed medallions recount the apparitions to Juan Diego and the Miracle of the Roses. The large canvas combines the stable central image associated with Tepeyac with a surrounding devotional narrative. Brilliant colour and carefully articulated details exemplify the New Spanish Baroque treatment of one of its most widely venerated Marian subjects.
